Le Tour De France – Update

The Tour is in its final stages and it has been one of the most exciting and evenly matched Tours in a while. With Schleck and Contador battling it out tonight on the Col du Tourmalet, a hilltop finish that soars to 2, 115m. It is a backdrop to a rivalry, atavistic of Lemond and Fignon or Armstrong and Ulrich. Will it come down to the final time-trial like tours past? And what about the dark horses; Sammy Sanchez and Dennis Menchov?

Our Tour sale is also in its final days extending to this weekend, the Avanti Cadent 1.0 a steal at $1,999 and the Avanti Quantum 1.0 at $2,199. Every Avanti bike is is reduced and a great deal of the Specialized Bikes as well. If you have not come in to the store to check our full selection of bikes then don’t leave it too late, as the Sale ends soon.

  Lifecycle Junior Girls

Celeste and Holly on the podium

Ellen, Celeste and Holly on the podium

Look out world, here come the junior girls from Lifecycle. This weekend past (10th & 11th of July) Three of our Junior girls went out to compete in the Qld state road championships.

Saturday morning dawned over the Albert Bishop track and the riders began to roll up with their supporting families.

Celeste Class-Auliff was the first of our girls on the track in the J11 category and despite having only a little experience on the track, pulled up in the silver medal position.

A little later in the day it was time for two of our other riders, Ellen Skerrit and Holly Class-Auliff to ride their crit both finishing 4th and 5th respectively.

We should also say hi to Tia,who was to race in the same crit but as luck would have it she had a crash last week and had to withdraw.

Sunday morning and out to Kalbar, first up the Individual Time Trial where Celeste put in a fantastic ride to knock off the favorite and won gold by half a second (try riding at about 31km per hour with a 5.5m roll out!)

Holly and Ellen got out there and went hard, Ellen flew into the silver medal position just behind the reigning champion and Holly just missed out for third.

The road race followed the ITT and once again Celeste showed a clean pair of heals and sprinted to the finish line 200m ahead of the pack to take the gold medal.

Then as the sky got dark it was time for Ellen and Holly to race. Holly was not well but in true Lifecycle spirit she was determined to ride. Last years U17 champion Emily Roper rode away, like she did in the crit and ITT, to take her third gold but Ellen kept her cool and rode a great race to take the silver medal. Holly still finished well with 5th but has next year in the same age category and promised to come back hard.

Well done to Celeste, Ellen and Holly.

Also a big thanks goes out to Chris and Rod who are our new commissars and without them we could not have entries in state races.

So this begs a question, where are all our junior boys??
