Kevin Seeldraeyers takes White Jersey
Quick Step | May 25, 2009
Today, Monday May 25th, in the 237 km stage of the Giro d’ Italia from Pergola to Monte Petrano, 22 year-old Kevin Seeldraeyers earned the white jersey that distinguishes first place in the special standings reserved for young riders.
The young Belgian rider from QUICK STEP Team has already worn the white jersey in 2009, on the roads of the Paris-Nice. Now he’s confirmed his place among the most promising young climbers on the international circuit.
“Today – explains Seeldraeyers – the entire team tried to run the stage in support of my efforts. Yesterday we noticed that Sweden’s Lövkvist was having some trouble on climbs, but we also had to watch out for Masciarelli. In today’s stage I tried to stay among the best as far as I could and for the final I tried to keep a decent advantage over my direct adversaries in the standings for the white jersey. This is a very important result for me – continues the Belgian – considering the high calibre of the athletes in the race.”
