Aussie Specialized Rider Wins Tour Down Under
After three stage wins at Australia's Tour Down Under, Quick Step's Allan Davis turned a collective 25-second lead into a huge overall win yesterday to take the first Pro Tour race of the season; Saxo Bank's Stuart O'Grady claimed a well-fought 2nd place.
In a Tour characterized by gutsy breakaways, debilitating crashes, fallen favorites and bunch sprints, Davis and the entire Quick Step team remained undaunted in their teamwork and technique, delivering Davis to victory at stages 2, 4 and 5. Maintaining possibly the most consistent performance throughout the length of the challenging week-long Tour, O'Grady was also never far from the action, taking decisive 3rd and 4th place finishes in every stage.
"To start the season on the right foot is unbelievable," said Davis in a Cycling News report. "I'd just like to thank the team – the result shows the respect they have for me. Without them there's no way I could have been here in this jersey today."
Both Team Quick Step and Team Saxo Bank will be racing the Specialized Tarmac and Roubaix this year, and Davis has chosen to ride exclusively Specialized gear from head to toe, including power-boosting Body Geometry (BG) S-Works road shoes and the blood-flow enhancing BG Toupé saddle. Davis also relies on the S-Works helmet–the lightest helmet to meet stringent CPSC standards–and light-sensing Miura optics with Adaptalite technology.
Trusted by many Pro Tour teams and athletes, Specialized Body Geometry products are scientifically developed, tested and proven to benefit performance.
