“Specialized bikes… are simply the best.” - Tom Boonen

Tarmac SL frame

Any fans of professional cycling will know by now that team QuickStep will be riding on Specialized bikes for 2007 and it seems that Tom Boonen and the rest of the QuickStep team are coming to realise what we've know at Lifecycle for quite some time, that "Specialized bikes are simply the best". Recently Belgian newspaper Gazeta van Antwerpen quoted Boonen as saying "My new bikes are really jewels. You would think, at this level, there is no difference anymore, but the new Specialized bikes that I have received are simply the best." This is praise indeed from the big Belgian who will be riding the same Tarmac SL frame for the 2007 season that you can buy at Lifecycle.

The Tarmac SL is designed for raw speed and efficiency but is still light, sharp-handling and smooth-riding. Made from the best Fact 10r carbon these frames are built using the new Az-1 frame construction technique. This saves considereable weight with out sacrificing the handling.

Don't think is just a dream bike only available in the US or Europe. We have the Tarmac SL in stock now as both a frame kit and a complete bike.

You would also be wrong in thinking that the Tarmac SL is only for the big boys like Tom Boonen. Specialized have a comprehensive range of sizes available so wether you are a big 1.92m tall like Tornado Tom, or under 1.75m in platform shoes like Lifecycle owner Blair Stockwell, Specialized have a Tarmac SL to suit.

Speaking of Blair he is a bit of an expert on the Tarmac SL having owned both the 2006 and 2007 model of bike. This says something about the ride quality as I have never known Blair to ride the same bike two years running before. If you want to know how these things ride give Blair a call or drop in and talk to him about sizing.

  1. Im thinking of getting the specialized tarmac sl. I am 1m78cm, with an inseam of 83cm. What size do you think i am probably going to need? I think going on the top tube length i will need a 54cm - what do you think?

  2. I am 6′ 2″ with a 36″ bikers inseam measurement. I just sold my tarmac elite as it seemed too long for me. When my hands were on the hoods the hubs were about 3″behind the bars (from my view). I am thinking about going to a 58″ S Works SL . Do you think it will be too small for me?
