In sharp contrast to previous years, Saturday August 9th dawned bright and clear for the 4th annual Winter Warmer. This is a weekend ride covering varying terrain over 250km of south east Queensland's best country side.  At 6:15 on Saturday morning the troops began to arrive and load the team support vehicle driven by Paul, our friendly `kiwi' driver. People looked rather nervous as they parted with their bags, wondering if they'd ever see their clothes again.  Paul had never been to Maleny, is obviously not a local and directions are not his forte!

If you're a Lifecycle club rider, you'll know its one of the greatest clubs around as you're able to ride with people of all standards from C grade all the way to Elite A and even Professional riders who travel and race all over the world. Its pretty cool wearing a jersey and being part of a team like this!

This year's Winter Warmer ride will be held on Saturday and Sunday 9-10 August. We will be covering 250 km in two days and will be staying overnight at the picturesque Tranquil Park at Maleny. We will depart Lifecycle and head out to Samford via Ferny Hills. The first major climb of the day will be the Samford range, approximately 1.5km long. We will pass through Samford and head to Dayboro after about 20km of relatively flat roads. Once we hit Dayboro we will be ascending Mt Mee, the major climb of the day. The Mt Mee climb is approximately 6km of steady climbing followed by 15km of undulating dairy country. A very steep and fast (80km/h) descent follows which will put us 8km from Woodford where we will stop for morning tea at the Woodford bakehouse.

Several Lifecycle riders competed in the BikeKing Tour de Sunshine Coast over the Queen's Birthday long weekend.  The 5 stage, 4 day Tour is considered by many to be the highlight of the Queensland road racing calendar and again in 2008 this proved to be the case.

Sunday May 25 saw the 7th running of the Avanti Classic road race. This one of the prestige races on the Queensland racing calender attracting over 200 riders from far and wide including New Zealand. It is run under handicap conditions with the elite scratch bunch giving away over 30min to the front markers. The pace is always high with everyone in with a chance of taking out the $2000 cash for first place.

This morning's Coot-tha Challenge was an epic battle of strength and determination that was thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part. Simone's Seven pulled off a well-deserved and narrow win with a 57 second improvement on their PBs, ahead of Blair's Boys who finished second only 49 seconds behind. The Dalglish Dashers were third, only another 24 seconds behind and the Farrington Five finished only another 45 seconds back. Considering there are 5 riders contributing to each time gap, the teams all finished up very close to each other.
